More and more of us have home offices these days, sometimes for a side business but often as a primary workplace for telecommuters.
Creating a Home Office – Where do you start? Once you decide on a specific room, you'll want to transform it with the right furniture, storage space, colors, and artwork. Will people be coming to your office? If so, you'll need extra seating. Will the office have to serve as a guest room on occasion? It's all about making the space work for you. Let's get all those papers, files, and your computer off the dining room table and into a a place where you'll enjoy working.
Arrangement - Since you'll be in your office a good number of hours every day, you'll want to first consider where to place your desk. You don't want to have your back to the door, and if there's a window with a nice view, you'll want to take advantage of that. Next, you'll want to put storage pieces so that they're convenient to reach. A closet can be a fabulous place for extra supplies and infrequently used items. Let's think about how you'll work and what would be the most convenient for you. The time we spend planning can make a big difference in how happy (and efficient) you are in your home office.
Oh, Those Files! – Here's a place that requires regular attention, but once you have a good filing system, routine maintenance is all you'll need. It's a matter of discarding what you no longer need and placing necessary files (like those tax documents you have to hang onto for seven years) out of the way in another area. You'll want to shred anything that's confidential like old credit card statements, etc. Won't it feel great when you can quickly put your hands on what you need without rummaging through drawers of old paperwork?
Digital Storage – With over 35 years of working in offices, I know my way around computers! If your computer is full of unsorted files, you probably spend a lot of time trying to find the right documents, photos, etc. when you want them. I can set you up for success and show you how to categorize your files. It's really easier to learn than you think, and and it will save you a lot of time and frustration. Trust me on this one!
Storage - What about all those office supplies like extra printer paper, pens, paper clips, staples, rubber bands etc. that may be creating chaos on and around your desk? In a very short time, we can put all those necessary extras in a convenient place, close at hand.
Let's get your office set up and organized so you can work the most efficiently and hassle free as possible. An organized office will save you time--time you can spend with your family or on things you love to do.
