Whether you're moving out of a large home into an apartment or another facility, downsizing can be stressful. I can make it easier!
The good news is that once you get rid of things you no longer need, life becomes simpler and easier. The less clutter that you have, the more tranquil your life will be.
The Right Mindset - Think of downsizing not as an ending but as an opportunity to create a new life and new adventures for yourself. Once you get over the fear of getting rid of your unnecessary stuff, it can be very freeing.
The Sooner You Begin, the Better! Don't wait until moving day is on the horizon--or worse, when you are forced to move--to begin letting things go. The more you have decluttered and discarded, the easier things will be later.
Of course you'll want to keep those items that are really special and memorable, but with each item, ask yourself if it is truly something you need to keep or could you give it to one of your children or donate it and let someone else enjoy it.
Consider Your New Space. If you already know where you'll be moving, you'll want to figure out generally where each item will go in your new home. You don't want to have to finish your decluttering project after you move.
Consider Your New Lifestyle. Perhaps you've entertained a lot in the past, but your new situation will be different. It's time to get rid of those 24 wine glasses and large party platters.
Remember: You can always buy it later if you really need it!
The Benefits of Downsizing. Once you've completed your downsizing project, you'll feel lighter, more in control, and ready for what's next. And what's that peace of mind worth?
